Sources and data.
Flock Uprising combines a public upstream ALPR point archive with community reports. Each layer has a distinct verification label; neither is a complete inventory of installed equipment.
Upstream ALPR points
Finding Flock — OpenStreetMap ALPR point archive. The public data page links a versioned PMTiles archive containing points mapped as OpenStreetMap nodes tagged surveillance:type=ALPR. The archive lists individual mapped ALPR locations and vendor classes, including Flock, Genetec, Leonardo, Motorola, Neology, other, and unknown. It does not represent other camera categories unless they are separately mapped and published.
These are volunteer-submitted OpenStreetMap records, not an official vendor, agency, or government inventory. A public source entry means that the upstream archive contains a mapped point; it does not mean Flock Uprising independently inspected the hardware, confirmed it is active, or verified its exact current position. A missing point does not show that a camera is absent. The upstream publisher says its snapshot is rebuilt every six hours; this site discovers the current versioned file from its source page.
Community reports
Visitors may submit coordinates, city/state, a system type, a vendor if known, and an optional public source link. After a successful Cloudflare Turnstile check and field validation, the report is published immediately as Community reported · unverified. It is a statement from the submitter, not a source-confirmed or independently checked fact. The owner console can hide or restore a report after it has appeared. This later control does not delay initial publication.
Flock Uprising accepts leads for ALPR, video cameras, traffic or radar sensors, wireless signal sensors, and other or uncertain systems, but those additional categories are community reports unless and until a documented public source is added. The current upstream archive itself covers ALPR points only. Vendor labels such as Condor on the community form do not imply that the upstream feed contains those devices.
Attribution and license
Camera point data © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License (ODbL) 1.0. The map retains attribution and links to the Finding Flock data page. If you extract or adapt the upstream database, follow ODbL attribution and share-alike requirements. Community reports are separately marked and are not presented as part of the upstream OSM database.
U.S. Census Bureau TIGERweb state boundaries provide geographic context only. City searches use Census incorporated-place and designated-place centers; ZIP searches use ZIP Code Tabulation Areas; street searches use address-range estimates. These lookups are not camera evidence. Searches are forwarded to Census services and are not saved by this project. Census TIGER information.
The interactive map uses the open-source MapLibre GL JS and PMTiles libraries delivered by a public CDN. Camera archive point tiles are fetched directly from the public upstream archive by byte range; this site’s database stores only daily snapshot metadata for that archive, not 144,000+ point rows.
Scheduled checks and change history
The project’s Cloudflare Worker code is configured to check the upstream page and validate its versioned PMTiles header and metadata daily. A completed check is evidenced by a successful snapshot in the private owner console; configuration alone does not prove that a scheduled run has occurred. D1 can retain the checked file URL, ETag, file size, upstream-reported count, feature count, snapshot label, and check time. These are archive-level snapshots. This process does not presently diff every point between archive versions, so this site must not claim a per-camera addition, removal, or change log for the upstream archive. The upstream version changes; a removed point may reflect a data edit and is not proof a physical camera was taken down.
A separate city aggregate importer retains changes for its city-level records when a scheduled full snapshot completes. City aggregate history is not individual camera history. Scheduled data collection may pause if a source changes its terms, access, or license, or if free service limits are reached.
Corrections and source links
Use the submission page to publish a new community observation immediately or send a private correction to a source record. Corrections remain private for review; a new community lead is public as soon as its human check and validation pass. To update the upstream OSM point, follow the publisher’s methodology and correction process.
